When searching for old coins where do you hunt more? Parks? Old homes? Woods? Anywhere else?

Old homes, construction sites and sidewalk/street tear outs in older areas of town. If it's an old place, there is usually something hiding there. I know others hunt farm fields and woods, but my research has never got me to any of those places yet. This year, I hope to hit a few farm fields.

Mostly very old parks, church grounds and homes. Finding the older coins is all about putting yourself in the right location.

I've found more in a weekend at parks than I have in many, many hours over the course of a couple of months in a field I've been hunting. However, my oldest and coolest finds were at the field. I also enjoy the field as a quiet get away after a long day at work.

Parks, old schools, and the woods are all places I hunt and find old coins at. The few private yards I've hunted gave up the goods as well...

in my opinion the absolute BEST chance for old silvers are old private properties. houses on them or not, they give up the goods. and the curb strips in the old sections of town also have lots of silver waiting to be found. parks have been pounded, and most of the easy silvers in them have been found. what is left is usually masked by other trash, or shallower clad.

So I kind of have a followup to this question, as I am fairly new to coin and relic hunting-do you guys get any heat digging in parks and other public places? I've been hunting parks and and our fairground and have had several people give me grief over digging. I actually got permission from one of the fairground employees, but as soon as one of the supervisors saw me digging, she kicked me out. She said metal detecting was fine as long as I don't dig. I explained that without digging, it was kind of futile and showed her how carefully I had put the plugs back into the turf, but she was having none of it. Are you guys just hunting larger parks that don't have as much foot traffic?

Not us. We hunt parks of every size with no problems. Also, schools are a great spot to get goodies.

I agree with everyone above!
if you are just coinshooting for clad...parks, schools, bike/jogging paths if you are going for old coinage...pre-1960 houses, farms, woods, dirt paths I once did a apartment complex, right outside the doors along the sidewalks where literally hundreds of couches have been moved in and out...cha-ching..you actually get tired of digging clad. most are surface or less than 3" __________________ |
