Default My hats off to the lifeguards and beach patrol

I stopped in Daytona after work today and found myself in the center of quite a frenzy of water activity. The waves were 6 to 8 feet and yet the lifeguards were swimming in pairs with nothing but their float buoys trailing behind them. Those of you familiar with Daytona know how far the pier goes out and they were swimming past the end of the pier. There were also about 4 lifeguards on jetskis and they were putting alot of heart into trying to find a swimmer that had been pulled out to sea by the currents.

When I left at about 8:00 pm it was starting to get dark and they were still looking...A helicopter was going back and forth between the pier and sunsplash. I was only in ankle deep water but every once in a while a surge would come in and the low tide never really materialized.

I was impressed with the skill and dedication of those that were searching. I have never thought about Thanking a lifeguard for what they do but after seeing this today I am going to start making it a habit!

You are absolutely right, these people deserve a lot of credit. I was at Virginia Beach on Saturday and they were working on some poor guy they had just pulled out, to the best of my knowledge he made it. There was a boat and a chopper out looking for other people, but I don't think any were found.
