Well i came back early from my trip, and with only a few days home before i head back out on the job for another few weeks i decided to go out for a little hunt. i hit a school that i had gotten 2 merc's from in the past.

I went out to the area where i found my very first merc and started working it over. well i got a pretty good surface signal that turned out to be a bottle cap, re scanning the area i found a 1972 penny about 4 inches away. as i always do i scaned around the plugs and i got a tiny blip from the audio response on the machine but it was just too deep for the detector to give me a read out so i switched it over to manual and cranked it up a few notches. the machine was falsing like crazy but there was a repeatable high tone from two directions and it was deep so i decided to dig. because it was falsing so much i couldnt pinpoint at all but i just made note of the audio response from both directions and put that area in the middle of the plug.

Well, i flipped the plug and almost !!!! my pants! the coin was on the bottom of the plug with the back facing down. i knew it wasnt a merc because the back looked different. i picked the coin up and it was my very first seated dime! 1875 CC making my oldest coin to date. this from a school yard that had nothing on it until 1901! plus it was only 50 feet from where i dug my first merc also. i also found a small silver childs ring thats not in the photo because my daughter claimed it as her own.

The wheat pennys in the photo came from a hunt i didnt get a chance to post, there was a 1912, 1927, 1941 and a 1952 plus the one wheat i found today which was a 1941

I have been using the long audio response for quite a while now. im thinking of going out on a hunt today and trying the normal audio response and see if i can get a hang of that.

well, i hope everyone enjoyed the story and happy hunting!

Totals for the Day
1 1875 CC Lower seated dime
1 Silver Childs Ring
1941 Wheat Penny
5 pennys
1 dime
2 quarters ( pocket spill, rang a 10-47 on the machine )

-0800 i went out for a few hour hunt today. i went to work a waterside that has housed built in the 1930's lining the street. honestly not alot to be found, i think my oldest coin was a 1973 quarter. i expect alot more from the area but what can you say. i was also having some very erratic behavior from my machine, falseing all over the place.

i have been talking about trying the normal response speed for a while, since that is what alot of people use. i set my machine with these settings this afternoon for a hunt.

Audio:
Threshold Level - 19
Volume limit - 30
volume gain - 30
response - normal
Threshold Pitch - 25 ( for me this makes silver really sound high )

Tone ID
# of tones - Multi
Sounds - Conductive
Varitibility - 30
Limits - 23 ( the higher the limits, the more crackle any high tone gives me, maybe from over amplification, but to me 23 gives coins a clear bell tone, while keeping crackle noises on iron falses )

Expert:
Recovery Deep - Off
Recovery Fast - Off
Trash Density - High
Ground Difficult

i went out with these settings for about 2 hours. i have to say after learning the machine on long response, normal response was pretty easy to figure out. it make hunting in heavy trash a bit easyer as it separates better, but you can still end up with some pretty chatty senarios.

anyways, i will continue to use normal response and see how it goes

Totals for the day
4 Quarters
8 Dimes
4 Wheat pennys ( oldest 1939 )
15 Pennys

Tone ID
