I bought the DFX over the XLT because I had enough money to get the top of the line machine that does it all. The XLt is a great machine also and I hear it gets a little more depth than the DFX, but with my 12" super coil I seem to be getting pretty good depth. But you have to remember, someone that know what they are doing can make a novice look very inexperience even with the top of the line machine. So remember, the more you read and practice the better you will get. There are plenty of sites out there especially this one and the DFXonly site that will get you through any problems you would have with your machine. Good Luck!!!

I bought the DFX after owning a XLT for over a year. No regrets at all

I have been looking to get a detector for a while and researching for a few weeks. I was was actually looking at the M6 or Prizm V (more in my budget) when I stumbled upon a great deal deal on a DFX yeterday.

I Have not made it out of my own back-yard, but a quick test using the 'Coin' program yielded 1 Quarter, 1 Penny two bottle caps and a piece of foil. All at approximately the depth indicated and all properly identified on the display.
Tons of other coins identified, but did not dig them all as I had not yet picked up a digging tool yet and did not want my back yard looking like a gopher park.
Deepest was the quarter at about 6".

While I can not compare it to any experiences with the XLT, I am so far impressed with the DFX.

Tony, seeking your advice on an upgrade from a Prizm 3 to a DFX or XLT exclusive sandy beach use only. Eyes wide open!
