Default Oldest coin yet

went out to the pads today and braved the heat for about an hour or so. As the sweat was dripping from my brow my first coin I dug was this nice 1913 wheatie I was stunned when I looked it up in the red book to see it worth $7.00 in good condition, I also found what I thought would be an old army dog tag but I don't think it is the photo is the tag soking in water as I'm hoping to clean it to maybe read it a little better.

That wheatie is purrty! Good shape for it's age. One of the words on your mystery looks like it say "Redondo".

Default Bet it's a metal luggage tag.

Rusty,
I wonder if that is some sort of metal luggage tag. It doesn't make any sense the 669 at the bottom would be a SS#. Maybe that's the prefix (what we old guys called the exchange) for the start of a phone number. Redondo Beach and Compton are adjacent to each other. Both are in the 310 area code. Maybe at one time Redondo Beach and Compton were both 669 prefix. Since you found it in Nevada, it would follow that maybe it came off someone's luggage while visiting.

Nice one! Congrats on breaking into the teens. That 1916D Merc is probably close by.

There is a 1 in front of the 669, look closely, it's 1669 13, so I don't think it's an old phone number.

Default Good eye!

Good eye Springfield. Should have seen that myself since the first "6" doesn't line up with the name and address. Looks like a dash also after the "9". Before I did the phone number prefix search, I first thought maybe it was the metal plate with merchant info that used to be in the older carbon credit card imprinters. This was back in the days when a person's credit card was put into a machine next to a metal plate that had the merchants name, address, and etc. along with a carbon charge slip. It was either swiped across or imprinted by pushing down on a handle like heavy duty staplers have. I'm sure us older folks remember these. Like 29 cent gasoline. Actually, I'm old enough to remember gas wars when it was 9 cents a gallon and you got green stamps too.
