Question White's Super 12 Coil

I am seeking information on the new coil from Whites. I would like to hear your experiences and opinions on this coil. I am looking for programing tips or a good program you use with the DFX with this coil. I have just purchased the Super 12 and thought I would start a thread here on The Friendly Metal Detecting Forum.

Thanks in advance...

Keep Swing'in
Jack

Thanks Jack for posting this thread. I'm thinking about purchasing one myself for my MXT. I'd be interested in reading a first hand "end user" field report of it's performance.

Hey Jack, this is the site I used for a program using the 12" Super Coil for my DFX...

http://www.dfxonly.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2224

BTW: I know it says for the 1400 but I heard others using it with success for the 12"

I like my Super 12 a lot. It is only 3 ounces heavier than the stock coil on the DFX, much lighter than the Eclipse coil. You can cover more ground per swing than the stock coil. I use the same program that I use with the other coils, not much need to change them. Of course it wouldn't be a good coil for a high trash area, you would want to have one of the smaller ones. I have found coins in areas that I and others previously hunted, which impressed me but I have to say I have only noticed a small improvement in depth over the stock coil. I used it in the water several times and it worked great, that is until one trip it filled up with water and the DFX went nuts. I sent it back to Whites and had a new one in about a week. I've used it on the beach with all metal mode and that worked good to. All in all, I think it is a great coil and I've seen some good deals on Ebay for them.

Thanks for your input Schrecky. I am having a great time with it so far. It's pretty exciting to be going back to the same old local park and making good finds. How do you find the pinpointing accuracy? ; depth accuracy?

Pinpoint accuracy is very good, do it with Ratchet turned off and manually ratchet it.

Depth readings are only accurate with the stock coil. However the reading it shows for depth with some other coil will be relative to the depth of the target. So if your target is actually at 4 inches and the display shows 5 1/2 inches with a non-stock coil it should show around 5 1/2 inches for all targets at 4 inches.

My first and only (until this week) detector was the DFX. I've been using it for a few years. This week I'm trying out my new Excalibur. It is a good detector, has it's advantages and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it after a while but at this point I really miss the DFX's accurate pinpointing, excellent tone ID, light weight, ratcheting, VDI readings, Signagraph, battery level checks and being able to switch to one of 4 coils. I guess I'm learning how to detect the way they did in the days before the displays did all the work for you. Not complaining, it will make me better at the hobby.

Hey Shrecky, stick with your DFX, I always find your commentary extremely useful and helpful when you tell of your DFX experiences. Thanks!!!
