Plastic seems heavy and durable, you would be able to cut it to remove for battery replacement and then seal again with more plastic. You could tell when it was damaged by air getting in and it not being sucked down tightly to the probe and the switch would be able to be used through the plastic. Just a thought I'd run by everyone here to see if it has been tried before.
