Default 2+pounds melt

HELLO....i found this last week..was hunting a old foundation dating @ late 1700s.. we were digging lots of melt..found these pieces of what appears to us to be silver..we think it could be a malted silverware or tea pot or something from a house fire..its tarnished black no rust..its not magnetic..extremely shiny when polished..but dont know for sure..would be nice at the price of silver..$1000+..where can i find out for sure?....401K

I've been told to stay far away from the pawn shops, but the coin dealers can test it.

Check the internet for companies that buy silver and gold near you. Beware of new companies that have popped up recently without a track record. In our neck of the woods, there are a few independent jewelry stores that'll buy precious metals for scrap prices. They'll test it and pay cash, and are competitive with companies that you mail it off to. Good luck! Curt

Default Pewter?

I hope it is silver, but it might be a pewter item that went through a house fire or a trash fire.
Good Luck,

Yes, I agree, take it to a coin dealer...Pawn shops use shady tests, and it can actually ruin and tarnish. Keep us informed..would be great if it were silver.
