Question I know it's a Kennedy half...but?

Hi all,

I picked up this nice Kennedy half at the bank today. What struck me as odd was the gold coating on it. It was faded on the front though. It is a 1972-D but tinks like silver on the desk. I can't see a clad line on the edges either. Also, it has the sheen of a proof or previously uncirculated coin. Could someone half given up a collector coin. Could it have been struck in silver as a commemorative? If any one has come across something like this before let me know.

You can see the gold color has worn off here:

I've gotten one of those myself. I believe they sell them as novelties, at a much higher cost of course

Edit: Forgot I had a scan of one, along with a 40%

Probably just gold washed. It's not a proof coin. Those would have an S mint mark.

I remember seeing gold colored Kennedys for sale years ago in a magazine.

I was given one of those gold plated Kennedy halves as a gift money clip. They were all the rage in the 1970's. Here's a photo.
