Is there any hope to clean this nickel up any better? I tried scrubbing Dawn and toothbrush, Boiling water, soaking in olive oil overnight.

I would clean with soap and water .. have tryed other methods but it has messed up my nickle finds

I don't know the value of your nickle but I had good results using bar keepers friend . I used it on a worn 1907 v nickle that was almost black in color . Mix this with a little water to make a thin paste , let the nickle soak in the solution & carefully use a tooth brush . This is abrasive be warned , I wouldn't use this on a coin with much value .

I soak mine overnight in worchester sauce. It makes the coin silver colored again but you can really see the pitted surface left behind once all the corrosion is removed.

WD-40 soak for 2 to 3 days. pitted coins nothing will make them whole again.
