Default garrett 250 or Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter II

I am new to detectors and am considering purchasing a Detector for Coins, relects, jewelry and possible for some prsopecting when I go out west. I'm Planning on spending up to $350 and am looking at these two Detectors. This will be my first detector. What are the pro's and con's of each. I will be doing most of hunting at the beach and in some rocky areas. Also the occasional trip into the woods. Any input would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Terry

Of the two ; go with the Ace250. It's heads above the other one. If you can however go up to the 350.00 you state as your limit , I suggest the Tesoro Cibola or Minelab Xterra30. Both are better than the Ace250 with the Xterra30 having target ID. If you need any more help please let me know. 8)

Terry,

Welcome to the forum!!!

I would definitely listen to Tony, he really helped me a lot when I was looking for my detector. Just remember, if your budget is $350 max, you may want to consider a few accessories. I would suggest a good set of headphones that have a volume control on them as well as some "digging" equipment. If you already have these type of items available to you, then go for the better detector that Tony has suggested.

HH,

Tom

Thank you for your advice and recommendations. After reading alot of reviews on this forum and advice. I think I will be opting for the Garrett 250. I was leaning that way all along, my only concern is the control unit looked like it was pretty cheep. However, after reading all the reviews and there was no mention of this, I'm assuming it is not a concern. Tony, I will be contacting you soon, In about 2 weeks to order the pro kit from you. Once again thanks for all your input,
Terry

Terry,

I have an Ace 250 based on the recommendations of a lot of people here. I think that the control unit is pretty well made.

Tony, just when I thought I made up my mind that I would be getting the ACE 250 I read where you say it is not very effective in the sand, and you would recommend minelabs E-terra 50. Is spending the extra 138 bucks going to be that much of a benefit in the long run? What other advantages does the mindlabs have over the ACE?
Thanks,
Terry

I have never used the Ace, but from posts on this site I have gathered it is weak(er) on finding nickles and therefore weak(er) on small gold. It is more professional looking and rugged than the Sharp Shooter, but for recovering nickles and gold, the Sharp Shooter will prevail. The autonotch built into the Bounty is excellent for weeding out pulltabs but still detecting nickles and zinc pennies. Of course I am bias because I own one, but it performes better than my buddies XLT on depth, recovery speed, and especially pinpointing. I'm sure you won't be dissappointed with either one you purchase.

I would definitely reccomend the X50. Its a really smooth operating detector and has a few options that the Ace doesn't have, You will surely realize more depth right off the bat and its operation in trashy areas is also better. The extrs bucks would be well spent here.
