Default Cleaning silver jewelry, poor man's way. Toothpaste!

I've found the easiest way to clean up tarnish off of old silver jewelry is to simply rub toothpaste on it. You just stick your jewelry under the faucet and rub toothpaste with a little water all over it. I got awesome results doing this. I had found some old sterling silver rings and hated how dark they were. The toothpaste trick worked great. I wasn't even using gritty kind. I imagine that'd work even better. I'll have to do a test at home and show you guys how well it works. At work now so can only suggest it. Sorry if this is old news.

I have used toothpaste in the past as well, it worked well when the jewelry was lightly tarnished, but I've noticed with the majority of the finds I've made at the beach if it had heavy tarnish it would do nothing to it. Even some industrial strength stuff I got from the jewelry store called E-Z-est wouldn't work on the heavily tarnished stuff I've found.

My cleaning lady uses something in a small brown bottle to clean the sinks and tubs. I've never heard of it before, but she buys it at a hardware store. I'll test it on some throw down coins and let you know how it works.

Thanks for the tip! I just tried it on one of my silver toe rings I pulled from a drained swimming hole, and the results are really nice! HH

Glad it worked for you. Pretty cool trick. I'm much rather my silver be nice and shiny.
