Default new to forums and metal detecting

Hi, I am new to all this. I used an underwaterwater detector once, in 1974,while skindiving. I live way back in the woods now in the Ozark mountains, and want to get into metal detecting. I've done my home work, and know of lots of sites hidden way back in the woods that I'd like to try looking for old silver coins. Hoping for that jar of silver dollars or the metal box filled with cash 60 years ago... I think I'm gonna buy a Whites MXT with the 9.5 coil... whadda ya think?

Welcome to the family!

You've made a good decision, the MXT is a good machine.

to the forum from nothern Virginia. MXT is great choice. I would look to get a 8x10 coil to go with it. Works really good in the brush and grass Vs the open std coil.

I've been researching MD's for a couple months now. Reading the internet and talking to dealers. I want more than a beginners machine I'll have to upgrade in 3 months, but can't afford the minelad e-trac or the whites spectrumV3. I know this won't be a fast passing hobby. My girlfriend has been digging old glass bottles at more than 50 old homesteads and camps for more than 20 years and has an awesome collection of valuable bottles. When she showed me some of these sites way back in the woods, I told her "there's old coins here too". She got excited and told me some of these places haven't been been seen in many years, ecept by deer hunters. I'm glad to hear ya'll say the MXT is a good machine, cause I can afford it.

I think that since you are so new to the hobby you should have me come out there with you and give you a hand and tips about detecting. But other than that sounds good to me. Wish you the best of luck.

Oh yea welcome to the hobby and forum from Michigan. Have a good time and make sure you share what you find with us.

Good to have ya on board. I'm in the Ozarks to and just got an MXT a couple months ago. I plan on hitting the woods and waters in the fall after all the tourists have left and the weather moderates a bit. No problems at all with the MXT, you might want to look into getting the book "The MXT Edge" by Jeff Foster could shorten the learning curve.

Default I started out with a White's Prism V

Don't get me wrong... I found some really good stuff with it. It was not enough detector for me to "grow into" and I upgraded in about two months to the Spectra V3 after some stellar finds (hence justifying the purchase to my fiance). I've heard really good things about the MXT as well. Minelab is the other BIG competitor to White's IMHO. Good luck on your research and I hope you get the right machine for you.
