I have been thinking about buying a Cibola and would appreciate it if any Cibola owners would tell me how good the machine is and of any bad points. TIA Merf

Only two bad points and their not really bad.
Battery consumption seems a little on the high side so don't go out without spares or get an under armrest pod and switch to AA cells. No ground balance so the machine is never totally optimised for a site and you won't get the best out of any accessory coils you buy. (same with all the preset ground balance machines whatever the make). If you can stretch a little more the Vaquero is the same machine with an adjustable ground balance. Both are virtually cut down/less featured versions of the Tejon so excellent depth and iron discrimination. Works best at slower sweep speeds, not as slow as the Sovereign, not as fast as a XLT. __________________ |

Thanks Brian. I am also wondering how deep the Cibola or Vaquero will find a coin under mild soil conditions. Merf

Mild soil can mean many things. Best to say that either machine will keep up with higher priced machines from other major manufacturers. If you can stretch get the Vaquero because you can reap the full benefit of the larger accessory coil and at times you will end up on sites that have either no or high mineralisation.
The Tejon is one of the hottest machines around at the moment and the Vaquero is only a fraction behind if the threshold is tweaked up. __________________ |

I don't have a Cibola but can tell you a little about the Tejon. There is a one room school site that my brother and I have been detecting for over 10 years. It is an old site that I know holds more than we have found, it has been plowed in years past then left for a hayfield. All signals are very deep. In over 10 years of hunting with 10 or 12 different detectors, several of them claiming to have great depth, we found a total of three coins. In the first three outings with the Tejon I found three more coins including a seated Liberty dime. It also seems to have an amazing ability to find coins on edge missed by other detectors. I don't know how this relates to the Cibola, but I have really been won over by the Tejon.

Same new HOT circuit used for all three machines so excellent depth and discrimination in the whole range. Add the 12x10" web coil and you will be out buying a bigger spade.
