Default new gal in town

hey folks, just figured I'd say hello and make myself known. I just got my machine back in working order (after a 12 year hiatus) and found this site VERY helpful. My boyfriend just bought a white's prizm III (and yes. I consider it one of "my machines" as well bc he gets discouraged very easily and I end up using his *nicer, more expensive* equipment).

Yesterday was my first day back in action since I was 10 years old, AND my first time MDing on the beach. It was a last minute decision to spend a day at the beach, so we spent an hour at walmart trying to find something to use as a sand scoop. Drove 3 hours and hunted 5 only to find 37 cents and MANY bottle tops. Also ran into another newbie couple on the beach, they were using the "walmart edition" bounty hunter and had already found a SILVER RING! My boyfriend of course got tweaked by this because he spent $250 on his machine and has found only $1.24 in clad and a hearty tab collection. Alas, it was nice to get some beach experience before we head to Cocoa Beach, FL this September.

Thank you everyone for making this such an informative and encouraging site! ~*Ariel*~

Hi Ariel, welcome to the forum! Don't be discouraged, the finds will come.

Tell your boyfriend it's a hobby, not a "get rich quick" scheme.

Welcome to the forum Ariel !!

Don't be discouraged, we all went through the same thing. If the bottle tops you kept digging up were the crimped bottle cap kind, search the forum for "pesky bottle caps" for a way to recognize them. If they are twist tops ... no solution other than dig I'm afraid.

Beach hunting is fun, but you have to get there ahead of the other detectorists, or know more than they do.

Ariel,

Welcome to our detecting family. It's never too late to get back into detecting. The beach is a great place to get back to detecting. You do need a decent sand scoop to make it enjoyable. Good hunting!!
