Default Just call the kiddo lucky!

I went back to the beach volleyball court I worked last night. I only got to work one half before some kids came and wanted to play volleyball. I talked my kiddo into coming along, but I knew we weren't going to be out long because it had been 105 degrees today.

Anyway we are just getting started and she says, "You have to sweep under the net". Since I am standing right there, I was headed there anyway. I hadn't completed my first swing and we got the coin bing. She reaches down and scoops up a nickel. About 5 steps further on, a penny. I come back and forth a few times. I said to her, don't let me forget to sweep across the back because people serve there. She says Oh no dad, you need to sweep here because people serve from here. She steps back and the ACE bings again. A dime at 4 inches. Nothing more on this side of the net.

I decide to cover the other side of the net. We get a a couple of pull tabs and then nothing for a couple of minutes. She says, come on bing already. Two steps later, bing bing bing. Out comes a penny.

Then she got pretty cocky and drew a circle in the sand, but there was nothing in the circle. I had been checking the edge past the sand but she said check the edge. Not ten seconds later another coin. I whipped my head around to check and see if she had been burying coins. These were all pretty crusty so I believed her when she denied it.

So out of 9 hits, we got 7 coins and 2 pull tabs. I think I am going to duct tape the kid to the ACE250 !

Sounds like you have a metal detecting mascot! When I was a kid, I would detect with my dad (early 70's when you would bring home a jar full.) Anyway, I was his metal detecting sidekick. He would carry five or six flat head screwdrivers in his pocket. When he would get a signal, he would pinpoint it and stick a screwdriver in the ground. I would go behind him digging everything up. After he was out of screwdrivers I would run them up to him. Every once in awhile he would have to come back to check a hole for me, but we got pretty good at our system. Those are great memories and I'm sure your daughter will always remember those times with you too... I'm know you will.

It's nice she likes to hang-out with you. (A lot of Dad's aren't so lucky.)

I've got a couple of volleyball courts I sweep every couple of weeks. Most of the stuff I find is right on the edge of the sand - where the kids sit and drink their Corona's. Also find clad in the grassy-edge too.

Hope it cools-down for you soon.

I've found really nice stuff right next to the two poles that hold the net up. I've found a pocket knife, a lovely PAIR of earrings (they were hooked together), and other things. Always try all the way around those posts.

Wish I had a sidekick like that. :-)

I have tried to go around the poles but can't separate the rebar or the pole itself. I have been considering a sniper coil for dealing with the poles.

Do you have any suggestions on working around the poles?
