Looks like a bullet from early black powder cartridges. A large number of these were introduced in 1870's so without any accurate measurements and some closeup pics it is hard to make guesses.

Is it made of lead? It sure looks like a pretty heavy grain bullet.

Looks like it could be Government 45-70 or similar.

Here is a pic of some I have found.



This one was loaded in 1878 by the head stamp.

Made of lead and looks very similar to the bullet on left. Thanks to all!!

i've found quite a few of those in the park across the street. It's been a well used park since 1920. Figured people hunted there back in the 1800's when the other side of town was populated and this was all farmland/woods....

never thought to get an id on them. Nice to see some info on them.
