Default I Thought The Hunt Was A Bust....Until

I got home and cleaned up what I thought was a junker ring. Still a cheapo, but appears to be old and kind of different. A 1/50 14K signet ring. I don't know the weight but it's big, ( notice it's size next to the quarter ) sure wish it was 14K

I hunted a place with a lot of history, where the digging was in soft ground and most of the targets were deep but few. The ring was at least 18" and I don't think the Excal would have picked it up.

I think the spot has a lot of potential but needs to be scouted out for firmer ground. I sure wish I didn't sell my boat, it would have made things a lot easier.

Wow, that looks like a really old ring. Btw how does it sound like? High or low tone? Or a repeatable null? I'm new to the Excalibur, and I'm still waiting for my first gold ring.

Chris, I was using my Dual Field PI and don't believe my Excal would have picked this ring up at the depth it was....but I could be wrong. It was a sharp , narrow tone.

Gold filled or not you've been doing very well Frank! I've found many of those 100+ yr old signets.....folks back then just didn't have the money for the real solid gold. Good stuff my friend!

Nice ring. Ive found a few civil war era rings field hunting that were marked 14 or 18K that were brass. I dont know if that was the way they used to mark the plated ones as well or what.

Great find Frank!!

You sure are getting to know the Dual Field and it comes as no surprise that you're getting into the deep old targets.
