Arrow Everything else forum

If you choose option 2 post comment below on what type of threads you don't want to see.

We'll keep the poll open for a couple of days or until we see a clear winner.

I can tell you that if you get rid of the everything else forum you will lose 50% of your posts and that is by no mean a good thing....

i'm voting for the first option and for the Admin to keep it the way it is, but for the forum members making the actual posts, just use a bit of common sense with the posting.
i do realize that the worst offender is no longer on here, but the rest of us can ease up on the whining, complaining and drama.
there are indeed some excellent posts being made on here (EE), so if we all work together, we can still enjoy them to the fullest without having to read through a bunch of the non-sense.
that's my 2 cents.

Pete

Went with option two, think it should be a little better defined. Although, I have a hunch the less wholesome threads will migrate to the new site. Maybe Everything Else, should be more in the informative type posts.

Don't see the poll, but going to guess that option 2, would involve keeping Everything Else, with new rules and restrictions.

1. Ranting and venting personal issues, although healthy for the individual, most can empathize or be amused, these post still tend to enrage people, share the anger. Some personal problems should be kept personal and private.

2. Negative posts about our sponsors, where the OP hasn't made more than an initial effort to resolve the issue, or waited more than a day to get a response from them. I've only dealt with one, and all three orders went well, one minor issue, resolved within minutes. I do tend to joke a little about the Kellyco Plumb Bob gold and silver finder, but they do offer it for sale, at an insanely high price, which I can't imagine a rational human being paying. Will probably got to their store sometime soon, only a 40 to 50 minute drive.

3. Coin Roll Hunters, complaining about banks that refuse to play their game, or want to charge a fee. It's a hobby, most hobbies cost money. Our metal detectors cost money, the batteries to run them costs money. Why should banks handle thousands of coins, just for someone else's fun and profit. This one is probably just me, have a problem with people expecting everything done for them free.

4. Threads asking why their thread was deleted, which is sometimes basically a re-post of the thread that was moved or deleted, and contacting a moderator would have answered their question.

I can understand how Everything Else can get to be a burden during the winter months, when hunting isn't possible, or a rare treat, but most folk still want some involvement. Still think that having some sort of forum, for things off the metal detecting topic is a good and healthy thing for the community.

keep it the way it is. I don't see anything really wrong with it. There are whiners and complainers in threads NOT in the everything else forum. You can't get rid of that, it's human nature.

Browsing through it now because of this thread and I don't see anything obscene right off the bat. But I am curious as to why the sudden changes?

Some members have young kids who also frequent these forums and some of the posts are a bit over the line to say the list. Just an attempt to make it more family oriented.

Keep the suggestions coming!

I understand that people have kids. I have a soon to be 6 year old. But she's not reading my computer screen when I am reading/posting. I agree with keeping the images and all that pg-13 or less by all means. But as for as texts, as long as it's within legal means and not "obscene" as defined by societies standards, I think it's good. I haven't seen too much of that anywhere. The language filters are in full force if I am not mistaken, should be well enough.

If you need more volunteer moderators who know the vB system fully, let me know! I would be more than happy. Have many years experience in multiple forum softwares.

I would change the PG rating to a G rating because honestly some like to push the limits . I voted that the EE section be kept but more family friendly...

There are several people, who do take their children detecting with them, and would imagine that they also share the forum as well. We should be setting a wholesome example, and not get to comfortable with the adult content. A lot of people, myself included, have pushed the limit a time or two. The language filters only pick up certain words, spelled correctly. A few minor changes, and most can still get the words across. I avoid the words altogether, but still convey the same meaning.

You don't have to be a member, to read the posts. Don't even have to visit the site, since Google, or any search engine will find what's written here as well. This isn't private content, it's open to anyone, anywhere, any age. I can understand wanting to sit down, with a cold adult beverage, relax, and just post what comes to mind, after a hot day hunting in the sun, sharing a few amusing thoughts or observation among friends. The kids are all asleep, it's adult time to unwind. Unfortunately, the content of the posts, remains, until a moderator removes anything offensive to sensitive eyes, which can become a burden, if not kept in check, discouraged. Yeah, most kids already know about adult stuff, be we really should be setting an example, and showing there is an appropriate time and place to express these things, not openly and publicly. What parent wants to take time off from work, to go to their child's school, to discuss a printed copy of some of these amusing adult threads?

Make it more family friendly. There are offensive things I would not say in front of my own children, I certainly should not be given a free ride to say them in front of other's children nor, for that matter, in front of anybody. If it even smells offensive (PG) it should be kept off a publicly offered forum.
