Default "Shurhit Products Chicago" Whazit

Howdy All - We found this piece today at a 1880's farm site. It says "SHURHIT PRODUCTS CHICAGO" on one side. This is the 3rd or 4th one of these we have found.

Shurhit shows up as an auto parts company on the net but I can't find anything like the piece we found. Hoping someone out there knows what it is.

Thanks for viewing. C9

Points out of an old distributor? Before electronic ignition, points and sparkplugs had to be changed every 10-12K miles.

looks to me like you push the big button in and the parts between the flat parts would move

Doggy Daddy is right. It is a coil point off of a Model T spark coil. I have found a couple. Yours is broken through. I will see if I can find a quick pic online.

Doug

Thanks for the info and link Doug. We have found a few of these and they are always broken...found a Model T Ford key at this site also...I am hoping for the hood ornament next!
