Default tesoro compadre vs Minelab Musketeer

so i just got into metal detecting.. i paid about 160 for my tesoro compadre and its allot of fun i found mostly pennies.. at about 3-4 inches then on youtube i see people using a Minelab Musketeer and picking up coins at about 8-9 INCHES! with 14 inch coil.. i seen they went for about 300$ but are not made anymore ;( should i try to get a Minelab Musketeer on a forum? or is it just as good as the compadre depth wise.. and if anyone has a Minelab Musketeer for sale please pm me

You didn't hear this from me, but there is a pretty easy way to get more depth with that Tesoro.
If you take the faceplate off there are a few pots inside that can be slightly adjusted if you are careful.
Turn up the sensitivity to almost max but before it starts chattering like mine, and that should give you a little more depth.
If your soil is not highly mineralized, that is.
Member SkiWhiz can help you with this, and there are pictures around here that show you how.

By the way, I hunted with mine in some of the worst soil on the planet in Birmingham Alabama for 4 months before I moved to another state with better dirt, and even though 2-4 inch depth was normal with the Compadre and every other detector out there, I always found way more than pennies on every hunt.
Gold, silver, chains, rings, and tons of coins of all types and much more.
If all you find are pennies, you need to look for other sites to hunt, or dig a few more of your solid signals.

The Compadre is a great little detector but it will not match (depth)the Musketeer no matter how hot you turn the Compadre. I am a Tesoro swinging fool but I have to be honest and tell you that the Musketeer's are one heck of a detector. The "Muskies" will not loose depth as you increase the discrimination like most other detectors will. I have used pretty much all the Musketeer series detectors from the Colt to the Musketeer Advantage & they were all great. It is hard to explain in words but if you use one you will hear and almost feel a coin, it gives a real round sound. I pm you my phone number if you want to give me a call to talk about the Tesoro's & Muskies. Steve.
