I moved this post from Eye Popping Section, because nobody saw it! I have not posted on here in a while, but none of my finds added up to what I considered a worthy post. Today I had possibly my best day of detecting! It started with me getting a phone call from my friend asking me to go detecting at a "filler" site. I agreed and met him over there, about 2 miles from my house. Immediately I dug a concave one piece button, with a broken shank, and what I believed to be flowers
![]() ![]() ![]() . We had dug a few flat buttons at this site in the past, so this was just set in the pile of clad. Next I dug a brass ruler piece. Then I dug a brass buckle of some sort, that definitely has some age to it. Next I dug a SECOND flat button, and I felt spoiled at that point. Nothing could have prepared me for my next dig. I got a pulltab signal, and dug down 5 or so inches with my lesche handheld. I rolled over the food and out rolled a tiny silverish disc. I thought it was play money. I started videoing and caught the reveal on camera: in my hand was an 1853 Seated Liberty half dime! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I yelled at my buddy and he came running over and we both stared at it in disbelief! It is holed, so there is a good chance that it was sewed inside a Civil War soldier's uniform coat. In the case that he died on the battlefield, the 8 cents would be fare for the transport of the body to the home of the soldier. This was my FIRST EVER dug half dime! I honestly just figured that it would be one of the coins I would never dig because Goesforever and Bonesquat dug them all up already! I went home then, satisfied with the 2 buttons and coin. As I was cleaning the larger of the 2 buttons, I saw what appeared to be an eagle and a shield. This got my blood pumping! I googled the backmark, and it made my heart skip a beat for the second time today. Here is what I read: it was a 1799-1826 Federal Infantry button, with REGt on the bottom!![]() ![]() I saw a dug example listed for sale for 250$! For you button guys out there, Alberts G151G! The last 2 pics are of the button on a website I found. I am so happy with my finds and happy to share! Enjoy! -FoundPics: one is of the button uncleaned as i found it, the other is of it cleaned. You can still see the Silver Gilt! The backmark is crystal clear, that is what made me realize the significance of what i had dug! info on the Federal Infantry button: http://www.relicman.com/buttons/zBackmarkArmitage.htm this site lists it as an 1812 Officer's button: http://www.civilwarbuttons.com/infantry.htm __________________ |

I wanted to share this: I overlooked this at first. Some people were telling me the button was not worth $250.00, I just found where one sold for $250.00. This is EXTREMELY good news! Here is the proof, notice "sold":
"GI51G Sold1812 Officers; Excellent dug condition. Found Charleston, SC. Heavily Silver Plated! 23mm $250.00" __________________ |

Hey that's a real nice button. It would be worth a lot more than $250 to me. You need to go back to that spot!

Congratulations on the finds. You certainly have a right to be excited about those finds. Just knowing that you brought them to the light of day after all those years makes them great finds. Money certainly isn't even an issue. Hope you can go back and recover even more exciting finds. Good luck.
