Default First hunt for 2012

Well, apparently research pays off! My buddy and I took advantage of a fairly decent day Saturday to hit a beach area that at one time was bordered by a half mile stock car racing track in the '30s. We didn't get to do much digging as most of the ground was still frozen but we did manage to get a couple of good hits in areas we could dig at! His first hit was a 1920 Merc in really good condition about 4" down. Then I pulled a couple of toasted wheaties, he pulled a few more wheaties, then I pulled a 1906 Barber Dime at 3 inches! Ended the day with an 1881 IH. We haven't even really begun to hit this area yet but it's looking promising to start!

I also pulled this beat-up Zippo lighter. The ship is the USS Leahy. It was originally a flagship destroyer in the 1960s and was converted to a missile cruiser around 1975. She was decommisioned in 1993 and broken up for scrap in 2004. Pretty neat find for me.

I forgot to take pics of my buddy's finds but I'll try to post them later.

Congrats on the Barber and IH penny! Sounds like you found a good place.
