Meteorite found

I was hunting in the wood's at a old site 2 weekend's ago,and believe i have found my 1st meterorite,you all be the judge ,here is the pick. Earl Ps the gold does not exist on the meterorite,it's a reflection off the lamp,it is all very shinny black flake

doesnt look like any rock ive ever seen. Im sure you could get it tested at a university.

Stupid question, and im sure it is, BUT is that metallic? I have a rock that looks just like that, and its see through.

The magnet test failed,the iron test was done with the F75se,registers in the iron class with a solid 16,so i guess it failed the meterorite test ? Tell me more,i watched the show meterorite men,the meterorites they found stuck to the magnet,the ? i have do all meterorites stick to magnet's ? Also i might add i have never seen a piece that looks like this and it is 1 3/4 inch- by 3/4 of an inch, and weighs in at 16.8 grams

I would just send it in. Meteorites come in a variety of compositions. Many that are not solid iron still have iron particles in them. You just won't know until you have it analyzed by a scientist.

Fred would coal hit hard,because when i run the coil over it ,its a solid reading,i thought it could be coal ,but i don't think coal would have flakey shinny uneven surfaces,who know's

Many meteorites are nickel. You could bring it to a University and they can do a spectrum analysis to determine the composition. It might cost you a few dollars, or you could just bring some coffee for the office

Yeah it sure looks like one, you can get it identified for free by asking for help from one of these parties. I can't personally recommend any of them, just searched for it.

you said the golden colors don't exists, so nevermind about pallasites. Still worth having it examined.

Looks like coal kind of.

Needs answers to some simple questions .....first does it stick to a magnet? Second, can you see light through thin edges or flakes of it....

KT has seen a lot of meteorites and a lot of meteorwrongs...looks much more like a meteorwrong than a rite to me at this time. Sorry. Looks more like dark iron rich slag glass. If it sets off your magnet and spots on it are magnetic but not everywhere, then it probably is slag...Slag will have some carried over bits of metallic iron set in a glassy matrix and should set off your MD for iron, but meteorites are rarely, and I mean RARELY translucent to light like dark glass is.
