I would LOVE to say I dug this bottle but, no, I picked it up at a local auction yesterday. It's called a "Shield and Clasped Hands" flask, sometimes referred to as "Union and Clasped Hands", made circa 1860s. One of several varieties of this design made by various early glassmakers. It has a small lip chip but otherwise looks great for a bottle some 150+ years old. The best thing about it was the price: $7!

Absolutely.

Thanks! I used to find bottles in the river Kayaking after a storm. Used the paddle to pick them off the bottom. One day I found two 1800s ones. One must have fell out the other side of the Kayak when I put them behind me. Because when I got home only one was still in the Kayak:shock:
