Scored this sweet little half real last night from my now pounded field site where a 1730 era house once stood. Got two seated half dimes and a seated dime from here but this one is the oldest. I hunt a lot of old sites but don't find much Spanish silver so always happy to get one when I can.

Beautiful coin,...I love any of them oldies with a coat of arms on them. Awesome!

Nice half, sounds like you have pulled some great stuff from that site!

Thanks Ive found a lot of 17th century stuff here too including a William and Mary halfpenny but I was hoping for a cob, might still be one, but this will do.

How often does one find Spanish silver in the upper Midwest?

I know of nobody that has dug Spanish Silver in the group of Wisconsin Hunters that I know. Not saying that it would be impossible to find here but extremely unlikely. Wisconsin was first known as part of the Ohio territory's but was not heavily settled until the early 1800's and did not become a state until 1848. The earliest settlements were French derived by the fur trade along waterways. Hence U.S. coinage was already established and the for most part what was used here. Trapper

Thanks everyone. Heres all eight of my Spanish. Got a long way to go to get to the hundreds that some SE Virginia guys have
