Firearms pics and discussion

Hey, Scoundrel! How do you like those Uberti copies of the 1858? I'm not that big a fan of muzzle loaders, but I'm quite tempted to start with one of those.

The quality of the Uberti's is excellent. The Pietta's are decent also. However, the Ruger Old Army is the ultimate cap and ball revolver. Not historically accurate, but very close to the 1858. They stopped making them about 20 years ago, but there are a lot of them out there that show up on the market. Even quite a few that have never been fired. A stainless Ruger old army with a five and a half inch barrel that has never been fired costs about $1,500.

Anyone else purchase surplus when they come up? I’ve made the drive to Ohio for past offerings and will definitely be in on this one too, although I won’t be making the drive. This is definitely one of my favorites.

I couldn't help but notice the clip on the side where a former porn star turned in her shotgun to be destroyed after the school shooting in Texas. She said that she was going to donate the gun's value, $1,500 to a gun safety group. She proves she doesn't know anything about guns if she paid that much for a pump shotgun like the one in the picture.

Brought home a new to me carry piece today. I wanted something less bulky than my Canik TP9SA, and something that packs a bit more punch than my PPK.

This PPS 9mm fits the bill. Came with both a 7 & 8 round mags.

That’s the original model with the paddle mag release isn’t it? Do you shoot lefty? That pistol caught my eye, being a southpaw. But they seem pretty scarce since the m2 version came out. Do you mind if I ask ballpark price and where you happened to find it?

I'm not a lefty, but yes it is the "classic". It has the paddle mag release, the changeable backstrap, and the accessory rail that the M2 doesn't have.

They're getting scarce, so I didn't mind giving a tad over $300 for it OTD w/all the original paperwork and case at my LGS.

You got a heck of a good deal! Let us know how it shoots after you get some rounds thru it

Just to update, it shoots really well @ combat/defense distances. I've been carrying it daily for a couple of months now, and I love it! It's very concealable and comfortable to carry IWB.

I also just picked up a new LRR....a Howa HCR APC in 6.5mm Creedmore.

I'll spend the next couple months setting it up, and the next couple months after that working up loads for it. The plan is ultimately to stretch it's legs out to a mile. :D

It's not a bench rest gun, but it is a long range rifle.
Most of my load development work will be done from a bench, but when I take it out to shoot @ long range (500yds-1mi) I'll be prone.

Glad you like it. I never came across one, but got myself a nice SA XDs 3.3 9mm, bi tone, used. Only ran about 100 rounds thru it so far, but really like it. Ambi mag release is nice for this southpaw, and love the fit of the gun

That XDs would likely have been my choice as well if the PPS hadn't turned up.
Of course, now that cold weather and heavy coats are just around the corner, conceal ability is less of an issue with double stacks, so I'll start carrying my Canik TP9SA more.

Since I can't shoot my 7MM Mag due to my neck surgery, I'm going to try and deer hunt with with my Anaconda this year. Time to load some more Hornady 300 gr XTP's

Half the fun about guns is tinkering with the loads!...I remember back in the late 80's, living survival subsistence out in Western South Dakota, I had a Security 6 .357/38 cal wheelie and a 22.250 Ruger M77 sporter barrel rifle..

Man! So we got all our supplies from a place in Rapid City called "The Ammo Cache" Old bastard named Mel...I think it was the blems from Black Hills Shooters Supply he was selling us....Anyway, they were really cheap! A guy would work on the recipes and tinker and get a round just right! Sub MOA!

I remember some things, like loading 9mm cast offs into the .357 and .38 spl casings...I had my 22-250 dialed in! Recollecting...Winchester 760 ball powder, 52 gr Sierra boat tail hollow point match....The damned thing was a tack driver at about 3750 fps out to 200yds!....

Everybody else was shooting 55gr spitzers! So Mel had a load of 52gr HPs for about free! So I bought 'em and got to work tinkering with the sub MOA load....

I had Leopold optics, a Harris bipod, and a Talley Ho predator call...I diddled around a bit, and finally got it figured out!

That damned round would hit a 'yote and just 'pop'! I got the hide...The last 'yote I ever killed, I shot him right between the nostrils, and that HP match round rolled his whole face back right between his ears! I fussing killed a great big Muley Buck on the Barber Ranch even, With a 22-250! Dropped right in his tracks! On account of I had it dialed in soooo accurate!

Those were some great times! I'm not a good shot, but I made up for my weaknesses in location and timing and diligence...I aint got any guns anymore...I do have a Wrist Rocket and a bag of marbles, so I pity the fool...

I watch the JFK assassination tapes and say to my Wife..."Anybody that knows ballistics, That poor bastard got hit in the forehead by a 22-250! From the front quarter! 52gr BTHP Sierra match, 760 Winchester ball powder, stepping along at about 3750"...Either that or some damned comparable Russian load right?!
