Hay Folks,

Went to an old area that I can drive right up to. And nobody
knows about it.

I have hunted this area several times using mostly a 5.75”
concentric coil. A lot of under growth has died off now, so I
decided to hunt it with my 12”X10” concentric coil mounted
on my Euro Sabre.

I was diggin pretty deep on some of these targets.

I cleaned up a few items for closer inspection.

I’m glad there aren’t many pull tabs like this runnin around.

Here’s a very old piece of lead.

There’s a brass lock off some kind of wooden trunk and a
copper ball on a brass base.

11-24-12.jpg

The copper ball is hollow.

11-24-8.jpg

The base is not threaded.

Here’s the bottom of tha brass lock.

It was made by Eagle Lock Company.

The company was established in 1833 and incorporated in
1854. At one time, Eagle was the largest trunk and cabinet
lock maker in the world.

The large buildings in this pic is Eagle Lock Company.

In Terryville, Connecticut, stands the Lock Museum of
America. Since 1972, when the museum was established
in a small store on Terryville's Main Street, the museum has
grown to over 500 members.

They have a website at:
http://www.lockmuseum.com/index.html.

Well, that’s about all I can milk out of this post. I guess I
better quit.

Hope you all aren’t bored to tears,

Tabdog

Can't get bored when someone takes the time to research a find like you did!!!
Looks like it cleaned up good too.Nice finds and great post too:)

Great post - the pictures are excellent and the research really adds to the finds. I like finding stuff with old patent dates like that. I wonder if Terryville had anything to do with Eli Terry, the clockmaker?

Hay MD'es,

I like mason jar lids when I can find a glass piece that
is not broken. Tha lids are always eaten up on tha old
ones.

I look and see if there was anything in tha jar if it's
thar.

Yaw tha old lock is neat. I like stuff with an old patent
date.

My oldest found patent date so far is a 1887 Economist
Iron. Economist was tha name of that particular iron. It
was found at the same site as the trunk lock.

They were known as Carver's Rotating Box Irons. He had
several models with different features, but they all rotated.

Here's tha drawing on it.

Cool stuff but does your wife know you put rusty metal on the carpet?:D

Judging by the size, I bet that copper ball came off a metal bed. It's cool, whatever it came off of.

Hay Fiat,

That's what my 95 year old mother said.

Top of a metal bed post and end of old

curton rod are tha best two things I've

heard so far.

I'm sure my wife would have had something

to say about my mess.

She's in a better place now and I'm sure

she doesn't mind.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Very, very nice, Tabdog.
I'd say the copper ball came off a bed post as well... I wish I had my pictures from the historical societies around here. I took tons of pictures of everything in their museums when I was working for the newspaper. More than 10 years of covering their open houses results in an enormous photo collection of just historical stuff. I've got all my newspaper collection stuff in the attic. I'd wake the house if I ventured up there on the third floor right now (I'm a morning person, often up by 4 AM while the family sleeps until 6 or so).

I've got piles and piles of negatives up there, and piles and piles of pictures I developed. Maybe I'll bring them down soon and make it a winter project ~ get everything developed again and catalog all my pics. Over 10 years worth of just work photography is gonna be monstrous, though.. :wow: I've got some nice award winning pics in there. Took top honors for New England in 9 different categories one year.

Sorry... didn't mean to digress or hijack your thread!
Back to the copper ball... I'll see if I can find the pic I took of that old rope-bottom bed (you all know what I'm talking about?)... maybe it has posts with copper balls on the top like yours...
