I recently had surgery on my ear and haven't been able to wear headphones for a while. Well, I had all the stitches removed this morning and was determined to get back to detecting. I put the headphones on a little cocked to the side, but I made it work. Walked some curbstrips downtown and started up a conversation with a nice fellow that led to permission to search his yard. It's a house built in 1901 and since been renovated into a couple rental units. The yard wasn't very big, but was full of coins. 14 wheat cents, Barber dime, silver Rosie, and a beautiful Barber quarter! He said I could come back anytime. I'm going to search that little yard from all angles. Thanks for looking. Brings my silver coin total to 55 for the year.

EDIT: I just realized that both of those barbers are key dates. I'm going to take them to the coin shop and see if they have any numismatic value. Dime is 1901s and quarter is 1915s.

Alright Stiffy! Great to see you got out and hit some pay dirt bigly! Let us know what the LCS guy says about your coins...You can look up the values on Cointrackers or some such site to give you a ballpark idea...ebay even...then at least you sort of know if the LCS guy is giving you the good dope on them...

Glad to "hear" you got your ear back. The muffs just add so much and without outside noise. Congrats on the Barber's and the Rosie, along with all those Wheat's. Hope the return trip is just as rewarding. Trapper

Two key silvers in one yard??? Those are considered key or semi-key because they are RARE! Finding them in the dirt is even more rare! That quarter is in great shape too. You, sir, have been Blessed.

Two key barbers in one hunt!? I can’t find a key anything!! Congrats! That Barber Quarter is in great condition , BTW!

Sweet barber quarter. I don't think I have seen one of them under my coin in a couple years at least. Hell, I haven't even found a barber dime this year. That is some productive swinging.

Congrats on the finds , I had a similar ear surgery and used an adapter to plug into my metal detector that converted over to the earphones from my cell phone, this enabled me to hunt while I healed. I still use them from time to time since I wear a large brim hat in the sun to minimize exposure.
It doesn't cut out all of the outside noise like muffs but doesn't hurt the healing ear.

Thanks! There are many things in life worse than a sore ear, but it's pretty high on the list! I've finally been able to sleep pretty good though. I use a travel pillow and put the sore ear in the hole so I can sleep on that side. Good idea to minimize the sun exposure. I learned the hard way.
