Guide to selecting a Salt-beach / Salt-water Detector

Where does the Whites Dual Field fit in here? I know the BHID is an east coast machine(based on what I've been told) and the west coast is all Whites DF.

Thanks for putting this out there.

You put a lot of work into this Dave. Thanks. Would a column of hardwired/aftermarket coils available be beneficial ?

Sure. If you give me the info, I'll add it to the spreadsheet! lol.
 :D

The Surfmaster PI Dual Field is a pulse induction machine and listed as the "White's Surf PI". Might have to redo the name to eliminate confusion.

It works well on the East coast too. The Dual Field's strengths are depth, working in tough conditions, and deeper submersion capabilities. The advantage of the BHID is it's a MF-VLF and can discriminate iron.

Maybe you can add the chart to the Information on beach detecting thread, because the only thing on there wright now is about Scoops, and Metals howboutit, ps it sure would help members who want to venture into , or try beach hunting, and help contain excessive questions or threads about beach hunting , as scoops , metals, and finally detectors :D would be on the thread . DAVE maybe you can fine tune the list, just to make sure you didn' t leave anything out, before a mod adds this to the thread.

Let me know if you see anything. I just made several revisions....bigger picture of the chart, revised the names of the Whites Beach Hunter, trim levels of the Sov, and an array of stuff from messages.

Due to PMs about detectors not listed on the spreadsheet, here is a quick update about...
.
Why your metal detector is NOT on the list:

1.) Your detector is NEW and is now listed on an updated post with a revised spreadsheet. Check on a more recent post on a different page. Perhaps page 2, 3, 4, 5....

2.) Some detectors have boxes with beach pictures and lofty claims but it is simply fancy advertising. It doesn't change the fact that it is still a single-frequency machine.
Examples: AT-Pro, DP-Underwater, Racer 2, etc

3.) Some detectors have selectable frequencies; however, they can only use one of them at a time. This means in salt water they still function like SF-VLFs which typically chatter or require adjustments such as reduced sensitivity to stop falsing.
Examples: Deus and Multi-Kruzer
.

It has been a while since my last update. Garrett, White's and Fisher (First Texas) are yet to release anything new for salt-water hunters. Meanwhile, many people continue to wait for their NOX to arrive...

So, time for some updated memes.

May 2018 UPDATE:
Minelab is still struggling to satisfy orders and fulfill demand for their new machine. Meanwhile, Tesoro, Fisher, Garrett, and Whites continue with their cutting-edge, 10 and 20 year old technology. <-- Big "eyeroll" on that statement. Don't get me wrong, it works ...just like a Model-T, but you don't see Ford still making tin-lizzies either.

Nokta, XP and Makro seem to be responsive to customer suggestions and quickly making advancements. We are hopeful but none have yet produced a machine that operates with more than 1-frequency at a time.

Regardless of what you swing, it's time to enjoy some new funnies... H/H y'all!
