The Courland Pocket (Latvia) - Metal Detecting Relic Hunting

Petroleum lamp, made of a small-caliber artillery shell.
These lamps are made by hand for lighting bunkers. These lamps are also called "Katyusha".
At the bottom of the lamp poured oil wick inserted from above. The lamp can be seen the wick and keep the smell of oil.

WW2 German Army ANZ-29 fuse
(ZDSCHN ANZ 29)


The fuse is made of brass. It's completely safe (It does not contain explosives) and makes an interesting WW2 collectible.

All displayed items are deactivated according to legislation of Latvia.

Nachschub Battalion 522 Turk.

The battalion came into existence on 26 August 1939 in Military District XVII. The battalion was set up as Supply Battalion 522 for Army troops in Vienna with 3 companies. First, the Battalion was used in Poland. In 1940 the battalion arrived in the Western Front. 1941, saw the battalion being used as part of the 12th Army during the Balkan campaign. This was followed by some time in southern Russia with the 17th Army used. From December 1941, the battalion deployed in the General Government. In 1943 the staff of the battalion was stationed in Kielce. On 22 April 1943 there was also a reclassification of the battalion into 6 companies. The 3rd Company was issued, and became the new 3rd and 4 (Turk.), and a fifth and 6 (Wolgatatar.) company. In September 1944, the Turkestan battalion's companies were then inducted into the Janow Turkvölkisch-Caucasian training and replacement battalion. 1944/45 the battalion was with the Seventh Army of Army Group B. The war ended for this unit In the Bonn area.

Those flare tubes ring up nice. An access I have can have old coins (1600's to present) but is lousy with those flare tubes. This site is near airport and they used flares to signal the planes. Between the hundreds of 8mm casing and flare tubes stopped digging those signals (8mm is mid tone low 60's on At pro flare tubes high tone 89-90). Also farm equipment over the years have cut up the tubes. Only found a couple in good shape
