Recently posted pictures of an antique silver Scottish disc that has two references to my ancestors. I have sent pictures and information to numerous Scottish British and American museums, universities and colleges and historians and information has been coming in. I have learned more about Scottish history and my family’s history than I ever imagined.
I learned my family had a lot of Jacobites in it as represented by the heart pierced by the arrow icon. I also learned the image that appears to be a hand holding a sword is actually a sign of a Peered Noble with a jousting victory over a Britain. If you expand the image you see it is a horse ( poorly engraved) wearing a crown. Also I was told this was would have represented about 8 months of wages for a farm worker so it was owned by a person of substance, most likely a nobleman.
And it probably was a “Sporan” or a decorative disc worn on a leather pouch as part of a dress kilt.
