Well,
When Equinox becomes available and the great stories or bad ones start to materialize from users, then we will see.
If the Equinox IDs deeper.
If it hunts in the iron better coil size for coil size.
If it is just plain deeper on nonferrous coin sized targets.
If it's Hotter on smaller gold and more stable in salt water.
Detector is waterproof.
Ergonomics of Equinox a big thing for folks to consider.
What $649 list for 600 model.
Too early to tell yet exactly how the detecting public will actually react.
Does anyone in their right mind, not think other manufacturers' sales haven't already been impacted,,,with just the waiting on the release of Equinox??
I don't think all metal function on a Vlf detector will ever be a strong reason for detecting public (as a whole) to buy any certain model detector.
Btw,
Who do we have to thank for Equinox?
IMO Garrett and XP.
So thank you Xp and Garrett.
One thing I am watching.
This is, how much do the smart coils cost for Equinox?
No list prices released yet.
And it will be interesting to see how these coils for Equinox compare to coils for CTX.
I mean one would think they would be similar priced right???
But look what a coil for CTX cost.
Could CTX smart coils prices be reduced due to Equinox???
Maybe.
Look here.
6" coil for CTX list about half it seems what a model 600 Equinox entire detector does.

So, depending on how much the actual coils for Equinox costs, it may indeed be a good market strategy to offer the model 600 Equinox with either the stock or small coil, with Equinox 600 with smaller coil for a cheaper price than one with stock coil setup.
I could see some folks buying the model 800 Equinox with stock coil, and buy the model 600 with a small coil setup for a back up detector just so in the long run get the smaller coil.
These smart coils IMO will be the weak link for Equinox.
Unless of course they are priced very reasonable and Minelab does indeed come out with some other sizes of coils.
This is the reason I feel a lot of folks went back or stayed with Etrac vs CTX.
Limited coil selection as well as the steeper prices for coils.
I don't think a lot of folks have put much thought into the above, not yet anyways.
CTX smart coils really should cost no more to make than a Equinox smart coil.
