Found this 0.02" (0.5 mm ) thick, 1.4" (35mm) diameter copper/brass disc buried about 9" deep in a colonial-era pasture-turned-to-woods. On the front side there are two concentric circles engraved and there are a few tiny gold-colored flecks. On the back, there are no markings and no discernible signs of a shank. The disc has a 'tear' in it, extending about half-way across the disc.

Could this be a flat or "dandy" button?

Thanks,
--Bert

I don't see a sign of a shank, but than I am not holding it. If I were to bet, I would go with a flat button, but it certainly could have a different use. I have found flat buttons without a backmark on more than one occasion.
