I was detecting a union camp on a farm which was one a field hospital just outside of Gettysburg. I was popping 3 ringers 3 to 5 inches along with a few newer bullets from hunters. this pendant was 12" down.... was it buried on purpose? there are some on line close to it. the others have a cross in an angle through a crown without Jesus Christ on the cross. and others have the words rotated. I was told masonic lodge .... but higher than the blue lodge. I was told knights of Columbus, I was told they were handed out to soldiers during the Gettysburg Civil war reunion. I cant get a straight answer or any pictures to back up what it is. just not sure of a war relic since it has Latin writing on it.

Translate.."In this sign thou shalt conquer"

I think Freemasons.
we looked at all their pendants on google images , but non were like this one. id be happy to put a date on it. like I said ,,, its like it was buried on purpose. the 3 ringers we pop are 3' under the surface. this was 12' deep. its an old old farm house that was a field hospital. the plaque is still on the house and the field hospital sign is in front of the barn. but I'm not sure its even civil war related?

Reunion badge. 3rd was Yankee unit. George Custer was a company officer. Parkersburg was official town where mustered up men.

Many cities both sides had reunions and gave badges.

Mine is Camp General John B Gordon Macon, Ga, 1912.. the only year Macon got the Confederate reunion.

Nice piece .

we weren't sure with all the latin writing on it. we read that Custers men were in the mason lodge (brother hood). if this is true. Custer fought a mile from where this was found. he fought on rt116..... this was found on rt97.!!!

CALVARY = Place where Christ was crucified.
CAVALRY = Soldiers riding horses into battle.

THIS IS A KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS PENDANT. NOT CAVALRY, NOT A REUNION BADGE. ALSO, REMEMBER THE WESTERN COUNTIES SEPARATED INTO West Virginia AND APPLIED FOR RE-ADMISSION TO THE UNION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WAR.

still to this day I don't have an answer as to what it is or why it was given out. I work with guys who are high up in the knights of Columbus and Masons lodge. they have sent pictures around with no answers. I sent pictures to the church listed, no reply. I even showed it to all the religious stands with badges that were close at the metal detecting shows. I sent pictures to knight Templar specialist.... they never got back with me.

i did not know the Knights Templar were in Parkersburg West Va.

dont think its that old from Knights Templar.

i still think that is a CW reunion badge. there was a 3rd Calvary in CW based in that town. many towns both side issued reunion badges. and the Masons could have given one out. they did in Macon. many honorable men were Masons. it could be connected to both. many veterans from lodges both sides.

Neat find and even better that youre having such a mystery finding what it is. Sometimes the hunt after the find is just as much fun. I was just through that area a few weeks ago and wished I had some time to stop and get a permission anywhere in that area
