Hit the woods surrounding a 1900 mansion. Found a musket ball and an unknown coin about 3 feet from each other. Also found a couple pieces of lead (maybe from when they made the bullets??), an old lightbulb with the glass still intact, some kind of iron piece shaped like a very large staple, and something that reminds me of those things military people pin on their shirts to hold medals. Probably not what it is though. Good, fun day.

Is the coin salvageable? I can’t see anything on it. I used a toothbrush and some baking soda to try cleaning it. Probably not the right thing to do. Trying electrolysis scares me.

Any ideas on any of my finds today?

It looks like you found "buck and ball". I dug up another 11 of them today in a spot I have close to my home.

EmuDetector-I’ve found buck & ball before. This one seems different. It is almost perfectly round. Looking online at pictures it very much resembles a musket ball. But who knows. You could be right. The other pieces I found today were not anywhere near each other. They were spread out over 10 acres at least. And they don’t have that white coating on them. But I’m no expert. I’ve only been doing this a couple of months now.

Well the bnb shots start off round. Could be unfired, but the little pieces of lead in the photo match right up. Do you have tools to measure?

What type of tool? I only have a ruler.

If it has small enough hash marks take a look at the size. The "ball" should be about .69 and Buck at .31. It could be off depending on if it deformed on an impact.

The coin looks about half cent/2 cent piece size. Also could be a farthing.

Thank you. From the looks of the coin I don’t think I’ll ever know what it is. I did measure it with a ruler and it is 27mm, maybe 26.75. Hard to be accurate with just a ruler and the wearing of the coin. Googling coin sizes makes me think it might be a Large Cent. Unless it’s foreign, then I have no idea.
