I'm not a Texan - but I believe there are some protected areas on South Padre. I took my mXT down there a couple of years ago for a vacation. I hit the beaches in front of the hotels, But be advised there are some historically restricted areas as well.

Good luck

where to look

on padre island any part of it that is considered a national sea shore is off limits.i have looked on county beaches and state owned beaches and have never had any trouble.I havent been down there in a number of years so it probably wouldnt hurt to ask around.it seems like things change from year to year.

The National Sea Shore is definitely off limits. They will seize you equipment if you are found with it there, even if you are not using it. They get very touchy about it.
Here is a site that may be useful. http://www.islandtraders.biz/AboutUs.htm

This link could be useful. http://www.sunkentreasurebooks.com/index.htm Remember not all the area down there belongs to the NPS.

If you subscribe to Lost Treasures, they also have some resources that may be useful. http://www.losttreasure.com/index.cfm Check out the Ghost Towns, maybe they can be of help. http://forums.ghosttowns.com/index.php?

Good luck and HH
