A few weeks ago I got a permission where a restaurant was razed. Before that a 2 story house had stood. Before that who knows.

The lot is very full of metallic trash. The owners originally refused me access. But we talked a bit and I asked what their plans for the property were and they are putting in a miniature golf course. I stood silently for a minute after hearing that and quietly asked “ Wouldn’t you WANT somebody to remove some of the trash that’s buried in the ground? It can be a safety hazard especially for kids to have it there. “

They quickly reconsidered and gave me their blessing. And it’s been a real treat to hunt. I have harvested a couple hundred pounds of metal to sell at the recycling center and much is brass and copper.

But I’ve found a crazy mixture of finds. Among them have been: my first horse shoe. 3 axe heads, one is a broad axe. A .69 caliber Minie ball. A pocket knife a .38 pearl handled Saturday night special ( the knife, gun and a brass drawer pull were all in the same hole. The weapons were likely in a bedside night stand that burned up when the house did. )

And coins. An 1864 Indian head penny. An 1855 Seated Liberty Dime. A shield nickel. A Barber dime and 3 Mercs and a Roosevelt. A number of wheat pennies.

I went back 2 days ago and found a solitary Zincoln. Apparently the well had run dry.

But today I could not resist going back. I found a VERY deep Zincoln. Then a very crusty penny and what appeared to be a tiny button. And later I found what is an 1898 spark plug.

I went home and found the penny was a 1907 Indian Head. And I was studying the “ button” and realized it only had one hole. Further study showed the reverse side said “HALF DIME”. I carefully cleaned it and it’s a beautiful 1853 Half Dime.

The Fat Lady hasn’t sung yet.

Nice job! Love that half dime. Those crispy Silver's cleaned up nice. How did you clean them?

Some awesome silvers and Axe head, sir.

Also, congrats on your finds publication in American Digger Magazine!

Most silvers I simply wet and rub with baking soda. The really challenging ones I do electrolysis ( checking every minute), then scrub with grade 00 steel wool and then baking soda.

You truly earned those rewards Chip with the efforts you made with the clean up of the lot. Some really nice work with the coin clean up also . Congrats on the Half Dime, the rest of the Silver's and some very interesting relics. Trapper

This is a WOW! report. You just keep "removing the trash" for them nice folks. I am left wondering what an 1898 spark plug looks like. Didn't know they went back that far.

Way to persevere and earn a "yes" on that permission! I gotta add that to my repertoire: "But the children...." with sad puppy-dog eyes!

Seriously what a fun hunting spot, and a cool mix of finds! That half dime is fabulous! Great hunting!

I haven’t cleaned it yet and it’s missing part but here you go. Feast your eyes. Lol.
