Heloo,
brand new to this site! I will be staying at the Grand Biloxi Casino in a few weeks and wondered if there is a beach within walking distance of the hotel and can I metal detect on the beach? Any help greatly appreciated since I don't want to being the detector on the plane if I can't use it.

if you are staying at the Grand in Biloxi, you will be staying on the beach, as all casinos are water side. As far as I know all beaches are open to metal detecting. Just watch the areas they keep the Least terns at, they will dive at you, repeatedly.

I was there about 7 years ago and was highly disappointed with the beach, if you could call it that. The water was completely nasty with what one resident told me that back in the 40's, 50's and early 60's the water was used as a place to pump raw sewage into. I don't know if it was true or not but the water sure looked the part as did the beach. There was even signs warning folks not to go in the water and there was no one on the beach. I hope it has changed although Boluxi is not part of the emerald coast.

Good luck though!

There is a park down the road in Pass Christian i would hit also, i go to art shows there everyyear and it gets tons of traffic but is dead during the week.

Love the MS Gulf.

The water there is kinda nasty. The last time I was there, it was about 9 months before Katrina. I wouldn't even waste my time water detecting there, after that whole thing...

just FYI, the water is murky, and its not sewage [lol], our barrier islands keep the circulation down to a bare minimum, also if you are cruising the beach on hwy 90, you will see drainage pipes running out into the water but that is the water run off from excessive rains, etc... so the poor circulation and water runoff from the land provides a nice murkey year round nasty looking beach water.. there are some nice places to mt, one spot is in front of coliseum, lots of tourists..

I always thought that it was because all the silt from the Mississippi Delta dumps up current from there, but after seeing the beaches a few time raw sewage makes sense too.

I can pretty much sum up my Biloxi beach experience by saying we saw a dead possum on the beach! that and port debris and garbage.

I've been there 2 times before the Katrina Hurricane. It is an interesting place. The huge giant casinos are all packed together on the beach. Yes it is on the inter coastal waterway so it is not like an ocean beach. I noticed that the casinos look like they are on land but are actually built on the water I think for legal reasons. If you notice the Grand Casino actually has huge metal plates to walk on into the casino. There is another casino that looks like a huge pirate ship that is docked. Anyway. That was before Katrina and there were lots of old beautiful houses and huge trees across from the beach a few miles past the casinos. It is a strip of land. All the tourist stay AT the casinos for all their needs. They are kind of like malls. Anyway. Just my impression. It is a great visit if you like casinos.... , I don't know what it is like now after Katrina. I heard there were slot machines in the ocean. But I bet the casinos emptied them before the storm. They watch every penny. And I bet they were rebuilt as fast as possible. But you never now what you might find.
