I was trudging through the woods today with temps in the teens freezing my butt off. This is a new area for me and I thought it was only inhabited in the 40s and 50s. I found a 43 merc the other day and I decided to go back today. I noticed an old stone wall off in the distance and thought I would give it a shot even though I never have any luck next to walls. I got about 20 feet from the wall and got a solid 90 91 vdi on the AT pro. I was expecting a silver quarter. I cut the plug and 6 inches down in the side wall I saw a big silver rim. I was already so happy without even knowing what I really had. I plucked it out to find that I found what I've been praying for an 1857 seated half dollar. I dont know if this belongs on Eye popping but my eyes sure did pop.thanks for looking and happy hunting.

That's great, congrats! Can you get a close up of the counter stamp? That counter stamp makes it even cooler!

Awesome find!!! I would be flipping out if I were you in excitement.

So exactly what does this stamp mean? What is NJ Wilcott?

I posted this in coin shooters and relic hunters. Someone did some research and found two people who it might be.
