I have found a few foreign coins as of late and I find them to be odd and exciting.

I believe they deserve their own thread.

Please Note what type of coin they are and any pertinent info along with photo.

Thank you...

To get things started, here are a few of my foreign finds so far.

1935 50 Reichspfennig
King George V 1919 penny
10 Yen

Unusual find for this local!

Was on the beach in South Jersey about a week ago trying to get some exercise during this Covid-19 event. First target was what I thought was a penny. When I got it out to clean it up, it turns out to be an Australian five cent piece! First Australian coin for me!

Sorry the pics are cruddy... the coin is in not such great shape.

My pile of foreign coin finds. When I dumped them out, I realized I had a Susan B Anthony mixed in there. Ha!

You have some very odd coins there. One looks to be an octagon, three have holes in them, and I see an old galleon ship. All of these found in Utah? If so, they made it very far inland.

Found these in the first 4 years I did this hobby, found a lot more in the years after.
Lots of these were found in tot lots in Kansas, for some reason.
Many of the steel ones came in as iron and I found them only because I usually hunt in all metal in those tot lots.

I found many of these at Mormon churches. It's a church of a very active missionary program around the world. Young missionaries returning from service, often bring and show/give younger kids the money from the country they served in.

Thought this was a flying eagle when I first started wiping it and only saw the wings

Bet that got your heart pumping, then... Dang it

That's funny. Obviously, parents give the coins to kids as play money and just as if the were adults, they lose it.

Those are cool. Never heard of a Maravedis. Had to look that up.

I do have a few that I have dug. Will check when I get home. Seems like I always find them in the coinstars too.
Recently I have been just given bags of foreign coins. Three of them. My mother and my brother each tossed me a bag. My brothers bag has old brit silver in it. A neighbor gave me a bag of "Greek" coins three weeks ago. Turns out only a few are Greek, most are Canadian and all are modern.

Here's one of my favorite foreigns. Deep squeaker from Oct 2018.
Austrian 2 groschen. Aluminum coin minted from 1950 to 1994.

CBD72476-E30E-4122-B244-E1BF5A5FFAA0.jpegFound this in Tahoe today. 1982 20 pence. Thought it was going to be a gold ring and then thought I had a crazy number for a nickel. 15 VDI on the Nox.

Many over the years. Here is this year's best so far, and a first for me, 1915 Cuban Silver.

I'm sure you would have rather had a gold ring, but still a cool find.

That is sweet. Bet not many of those will be found over here.
