I just checked ebay.I'm shocked at what pre-1982 pennies are fetching..

It makes no sense to me why the government allows people to melt down and destroy old silver and gold coins, but its a felony to melt down copper and nickel coins.

It's up to the director of the mint.......now, if my house burns down (God forbid) and my copper pennies melt, am I going to go to jail??????
