Today it was about 68 degrees and rather pleasant... Spent some time at an old schoolhouse that was closed in the early 1950's and turned into a barn/shed. It's been detected before, but I'd hoped they left me something.

Found several wheat pennies (9) and thought it was going to be a mid-century kind of day. But in my last hour, I went to the south side and was rewarded with a nice (intact but a little bit smashed) old crotal bell and a 1902 Indianhead. No complaints!

Was certain I had a sterling fork....nope...the plating just held on really well underground over the years.

Wow - that fork would've had me going, too! Looks like the real deal in the pics! Cool find regardless, though. Nice mix of finds - besides the crotal and Indian, I like that half cap gun barrel and anchor button(?) too. Plus a King Georgie - I like finding those...they add a little more spice to the Wheatie diet  Heck, I like the barn!! Those windows in the back are fantastic...making me think about how my garage might look with a little extra light! :cool3:

The coppery/brass round object in the crossed dinnerware pic looks interesting - hinged lid or base to a makeup compact?

Looks like a nice haul. Congrats.

It's a makeup compact; it's whole...I did pry it open: just decayed rouge and broken glass.

Such a cool old building eh? I shoulda taken pictures inside; the walls that are peeling away show different eras of paint and bricks and wood. And the ceiling is pretty cool too. There is a massive beehive in the front wall that he has left there for years, they were honey bees and quite docile (which is good as I am allergic)..it was amusing, they had a contractor there while I was detecting to get an estimate on painting the exterior and how to go about it while the bees are dormant so as not to disturb them....

Next post will be agate finds on Lake Superior! Off to the U.P!!

Those are some nice saves T, congrats on the Bell and IHP. I have yet to dig an intact crotal bell or sterling spoon. Good luck Mark

I think this is what my sad broken toy pieces would have been.....

Nice finds! Like the ornate piece. Also love the weathered wood on the school house.
Nice IHP as well!

I dug a crotal bell exactly like that the other week. I’ll get around to posting it soon. Does it say “2” on the bottom?
