Interested to hear your experiences regarding coils and silver coins. I put this thread in the coinshooters section because I'm not really asking for advice, rather, it would be good to get some statistics on what coils people use successfully, and some discussions.

If you were to split the topic between big or small coils, for me personally, I have had greater success with big round coils on my Golden. Smaller coils have found me silver as well, just not as much...so far ;) .

It depends on what type of area your hunting in as to which coil to use. The 5 inch coil works great in trash , iron and rocky area where an 8 and 10 inch coil would pick up too much junk and would'nt fit between the rocks where rings and silver hide. 8 and 10 inch coils are basically for more open areas with less trash like woods or soccer fields.

On dry land I use NEL coils on the Etrac. I have found literally hundreds of silver rings and coins with them, both the Tornado and the Sharpshooter.

I find the most silver with the coil that best fits the location I'm hunting. Wide open ground with very little trash = 13" or bigger. Light trash = 11", moderate trash = 8", heavy trash = 5"

I will say that I feel the DD style of coil is much better design overall than the concentric.

SEF hands down

I run both a dfx and mxt. I interchange to each on the spare rod. The 9 inch dd sef locates no deeper than the 9.5 stock coil, but separates and PPs dead on. I also have a 6 inch coil on a spare rod that i never used. Had it for more then 8 years. Still brand new.

I normally run the 11" DD on the F75 LTD, except when hunting in the rocks at the beach, then I use the 5" coil...Both are excellent for finding silver.
