Had a pretty good dig today! Silver brooch, 1864 IHP, colonial-era buckle, 3 ringer/Minie ball, smashed round ball, and some random lead weight. Any guesses on the brooch age?

WOW!! What a beauty of a brooch! The find filigree work is spectacular. Age wise I would guess late 1800's 1900ish. Big congrats on these awesome finds.

Thanks, bud! I appreciate it! Your age range is in line with the time period in which the part of the property had regular occupation and activity. Makes sense! I feel lucky to have found it!

Awesome finds and congrats! Without the context of the other finds I would have guessed that buckle to be MUCH older than the Victorian era. Almost seems spectacle-like in it's design.

I finally made time to research the buckle and you're 100% right. My buckle reference has this exact buckle pictured and dates it to between 1550 and 1650. Coincidentally, I've dug two of this same buckle design, the only difference being a slight size difference. I found them within a few miles of each other.

Thanks for your comments!

Congrats on the spectacle buckle. A bucket list find for sure. Buckles and buttons were often re-used and even handed down so it's fun to consider when it was made vs. when it was eventually lost.
