Hello all I just had to say that the pinpointing on the whites Prizm III is awful .
Has anyone else had problems with this detector. One can only make crosshairs in the ground for so long . I noticed that when in pinpointing mode
(allmetal) it will sound ( pinpoint ) when the coin is 2 inches outside the coil in any direction Why bother. If any one has a solution to this problem let me know so I can stop digging swimming pools P.S. im about ready to trow tis machine out the window Bob

Is this happening on shallow targets, deep targets or just in general? If its shallow targets try raising your coil alittle higher then try to pinpoint again.

Pinpointing problem

Bob,

I don't know your machine, but I know with the pinpointing on mine, if the machine is not properly ground balanced the pinpointing mode is way off... By the way did you get my other post in the coinshooting/relic forum?

My Prizm II is dead center the coil. Give Tony a call or email him. I am sure he can advise.

Sounds like a problem that needs repair. My prizm v is spot on - dead center - and I have had no trouble pulling up coins. Contact Whites or your local dealer in my opinion.

Prizm III

Digman, I agree. I have a Prizm III and once it hits a target in the all-metal mode, I dig a small plug out, about 3-4" wide, then use my Bullseye II Pinpointer. If it doesn't beep (the Bullseye), I dig a little deeper, and run it over the ground I dug up. It is almost always 100% right on. You may need to call White's, or where you purchased it.

Hope this helps.

I agree, I would at least give Whites a call if nothing more than to put your mind at ease. They are really great to work with, and have always answered my questions.

That is not supposed to be the case with the Prizms. I don't have one myself, but know several hunters that do.

Did you buy it new or used (eBay perhaps?)?
If used, th eprevious owner could have screwed around with the ground balance adjustment pot.

Does it always do that, or just in a few cases?
If on a trashy area, you may have gone into pin point mode near a piece of iron.

Anyway, it is worth checking the ground balance adjustment. If it is way off, fixing it will also improve the depth you can get from the detector.

I don't think it is a general problem either. I know a Prizm IV owner whose pinpoint is dead center with it.
