Went to the beer store today, looking in the penny tray I made the remark any old ones ? Saw a 64 Jeff nickel. The clerk replied, don't see too many old coins anymore as he handed me my change I looked in my hand and saw two copper pennies, flipped them over and one was a 1946 wheat cent. I thanked him and said well this penny is 77 years old, not too bad. Next I went to the super market, my first stop is always the coinstar. As I approached I could see a bunch of coins up on the shelf of the machine. apparently someone had emptied the reject tray and set the coins up there and did not inspect them too closely. I spied a sticky, dirty old quarter and could hardly believe my luck. Whaat ? A 1944. How did that get missed ? Mine now. The rest of the coins were clad with one 64 Jeff. I grabbed that one. It seems like most of the Jeff nickels I've dug this year are 64s. I will say after clean up the 44 GW is rougher than many of the one I dug. Still silver and happy to have it. First coinstar silver in a while.

What's becoming even more rare, is people paying with cash.

I honestly can't remember the last time I used cash. I don't even carry it anymore. I think the last time I used cash was about 2 years ago, when I went through a drive through, and their card payment thingy was down (I keep some cash in my car).

How old are you? Lol!
How do you go two years without handling cash?
It's not that I don't handle cash, I just haven't used it to pay for anything in a couple of years.

The only reason I handle cash, is because I own a business. About once a month, a senior pays in cash.

Nice saves, Mark! That ‘44 GW definitely has a little character, but bigger silver out of a CoinStar is a rarity!

I don’t use cash very often anymore, but I still carry it. I travel a lot for work, and often that travel is to smaller towns. I like to go to Mom and Pop places for lunch and/or dinner while on the road - food is often better quality, and for better prices - but a surprisingly high percentage of those Mom and Pop places are cash only, especially in small towns. I guess they just don’t want the hassle and fees of accepting cards, and having to choose between eating the fee or passing it on to the customer. I learned long ago to ask before I order at those types of places whether they accept credit cards, that way I can decide to move along or not depending on how much cash I have on hand!

You got some mad quick math skills  and I like the name of that store.

Nice going on the silver Wash and wheat!

Pennsy is one of those states that’s ultra strict in beer and liquor sales…you gotta go to a State Store for wine and liquor, and a Beer Distributor for beer. I remember my first days at college in PA - one of my buddies said he was going to the State Store and did I want anything…I had no idea what he was talking about, so I said “sure, I’ll take New York”. Yep, bad joke then, bad joke now….

Congrats on a rare coinstar coin!
Thank you metal. Any coinstar silver is rare around here these days. Mark

Thank you GS, a treat for sure.

Thanks Ben, I believe that is my first coinstar quarter. A few years ago I got a Walker, I've got a war nickel but when I'm lucky enough to get a silver it usually is just a Rosie. Now my sister who checks for me has found me 2 GWs in the last couple of years. Gotta love free silver.

We only have one credit card, and there are those odd places that only take certain cards. If yours isn't one of them, you better have some cash on you.

Cash is always king in my book. My local Family Dollar has constant issues with their network. At least once a month, they slap a sign on the door that reads, "cash only". Same for the gas station in my area, but not as often. People get so angry when it happens! Is it really that hard to keep 20 bucks in your wallet? Geez!

Nice grab on the sticky old quarter. Been a long time since I have seen coins in my Piggy Bank. :rofl2:

Thank you gentlemen. Freebird Tim is right. Cash is king. Its the only way to keep purchases anonymous. Young people today don't seem to care too much about their privacy but wonder why there is so much fraud and identity theft. Every card purchase made is a means of being tracked. No thanks, only use a credit card if I have too.
