Hey new to metal detecting here. I'm interested in finding some places to hunt in my area. Practiced some in my backyard. I'm ready to try some parks or schools or other areas. Interested in finding some civil war items or revolutionary items or some coins. I'm sure everyone wants the same. Got a inexpensive detector, and a pin pointer. I will be reading more on here for tips.

Welcome from Michigan! If you can hunt school yards and sports fields, try that because there is a lot less trash in them. Make sure you leave the area in the same condition as it was, in other words, dig a clean plug and use your hand to smooth the dirt and grass.

Best of luck and make sure you post ALL of your finds.

Thanks for the welcome messages and the tips. I learned quick its not so easy to dig a clean hole and replace it. Lot of red clay in my back yard. But I have gotten better. Different type of digging equipment has helped. I will keep everyone posted on my finds.

Big welcome from Northern Michigan. Another place where you can learn about a lot of places to go is from the senior folks who have lived there all their life. You may have to listen to a plethora of old stories before you get the information you need, but it could prove valuable. Good luck and happy hunting.

Hey ecoast. I am hoping to get up that way soon for work. My job takes me around the state, hoping to be able to find a few places to check when not working. Love the Seneca area. Seems like there would be lot of good exploring around that area.
