Hello Everyone, I am Jeff and just getting back into the hobby, i have done a bit of park and school detecting in the past with a Garrett ACE 250, but now I want to try and do some nugget shooting around the Reno, NV or northern Nevada areas. Interested to see if anybody else from around here knows of any good areas, or wants to detect with me sometime. I just bought a used Minelab GPX-4000 and I am anxious to go out and start learning how to use it properly. Thanks!

Thank you everybody for the welcomes! I am really looking forward to getting out and finding some gold, or relics.

Hello and welcome from your neighbor down south (Carson City)!

There are quite a few detecorists in the Reno area. We should get together some time and compare notes :)

Welcome from Carson City, Congrats on your new machine it should be a great nugget hunter and beach machine. Just got back from Rye Patch yesterday and tahoe today. Encountered some of the worst mineralization Ive had to deal with in Tahoe and wish I would have taken my PI. If you want to hunt some time let me know! Ive done allot of nugget shooting and just got into the coin and jewelry side this Dec. Have a spare coin machine if you need to use one.
Good luck and happy hunting!

Hey Godigit1, did you have any luck out at Rye Patch? I am going out there tomorrow morning to nugget shoot, a guy that lives out near there (nvchris) is going to help me learn how to use my gpx. Hopefully I'll be able to find something.... Did you find anything interesting up at Tahoe?

Hey Homestea:
No luck at Rye Patch this time, only crystals. One of the guys got one over a foot long and 10 inches wide. I just stopped at Tahoe for a little while on my way home from a job, nothing great this time $1.93 in clad. Last time on this beach I got a silver chain and a earing with a big stone. Let me know how you guys do at Rye Patch, should do better than me I hope as your machine is much deeper than mine. The area is getting pounded pretty hard. Their were at least ten other hunters this last weekend at the Majumba fields. Next time Im heading further back, I was with a big group and everyone wanted to crystal hunt so I didnt get back to the Trinitys or Seven Trough range.
Good luck to you both and like I said let me know how you guys do!

i Forgot to report back on my hunt at Rye Patch..... Unforutunatly I didnt find any nuggets, just a bunch of bullets and scap metal. I did however get to learn to use my gpx4000 thanks to nvchris for helping me out. I guess the Rye Patch area, has been searched over quite well, with only the occasional nugget being found there now.

I need to find an area closer to reno that i can hunt within the next few weeks before it starts getting too cold here. Ive heard talk about people finding nuggets detecting Six-mile canyon near dayton and carson. I guess I'll have to take a careful look at where claims are and be sure to stay out of anyones property. Has anyboy hunted this area with any luck?
