:fmdfwelcome: Thanks for joining us! I'm operating the Ace 250, and I enjoy its ease of use. Whichever detector you choose, have fun with your new hobby, and please keep us posted on your progress! :waytogo:

You can hunt dry sand with those two but if you buy a Minelab vanquish which is multifrequency then you will be able to hunt in saltwater! I believe the vanquish 340 starts at only $200!

Yeah that's actually one of the ones I wanted but unfortunately 150 is my limit right now this detector is really just to get started and is really for the kids when I get back from Vaca I'm looking to get one of the vanquish series the xterra pro or simplex plus for me then if I really am gonna stick with metal detecting I'd like to upgrade to a nox 6/8/900 or if I'm lucky the Excalibur but that will be a Xmas gift if I stick with the hobby I believe I will ty for the advice I've been watching ALOT of videos for 2 weeks or so now and there are some nice affordable detectors out there if I can squeeze it which believe me I'm trying I'd love the 340 for a starter

Welcome.....can you use individual sentences? Kinda hard to read run on and on....

I take it you are buying used at those prices.
I may be missing out but I rarely ever ground balance, maybe its essential in certain situations not sure but Ace 400 is a coin/jewelry magnet, simple to operate and ergonomically designed .. Downsides are it lacks depth [expect maybe 6" for a quarter] And lack of basic features like backlit LCD, volume control.

Far, far more bang for the buck with a Simplex, which is actually cheaper than the 400 new anyhow, there is really no comparison.

You know, whatever you get, enjoy. This hobby is really not about what you have, but how you use what you have. Discover the lost items and have fun trying to figure out what some of them are, and how they were used. Big welcome to ya. Now get out there and show us what you have found. :waytogo:

If you have the ability to try each one give them a swing and find what feels good to you. I think most of us will agree that having a cool detectors has some advantages, but in the end, it is just a matter of getting your coil over something good. Most of that comes from experience & research, and a good dose of luck.
